Press Release Body = Profiles of Three leading Indian Producers of Technical
Textiles for the Automotive Sector

The demand for automotive technical textile products in India has grown at a healthy
pace in recent years, reflecting strong expansion in the Indian automotive sector.
In the 2003/04 fiscal year, the market was worth Rs13,816 mn (US$301 mn).

Nylon tyre cord fabric, used for the reinforcement of tyres, is in high demand. In
2003/04 the market for this product was worth approximately Rs9,000 mn, representing
about two thirds of total sales of technical textiles for the automotive industry.
SRF is the largest Indian producer of nylon tyre cord fabric. The company had a
domestic market share of about 32% in 2005/06, and claims to be the eighth largest
manufacturer of nylon tyre cord fabric in the world. Century Enka is India's second
largest producer of nylon tyre cord fabric. The company also makes other technical
textile products, including polyester filament yarn, nylon filament yarn and
polyester chips. Given the robust demand for nylon tyre cord fabric in India, it is
not surprising that both SRF and Century Enka are in the process of significantly
expanding their production capacities.

Automotive furnishing fabrics-including seat covers-constitute another major product
in the market for automotive technical textiles with an estimated market size of
Rs1,073 mn in 2003/04. Bhilwara Melba De Witte (BMD) is the top producer of such
fabric in India, with a market share of about 50%. BMD is a joint venture between
Rajasthan Spinning and Weaving Mills of India and De Witte Lietaer of Belgium.
